Our houses La Reserva & El Torin are in the mountainous part of Frigiliana above the source of the river Higueron in Los Almachares only a few metres from the Axarquia National Park and the Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama mountain ranges . .
Here you are fortunate enough to be only 200 metres away from the National Park of Sierra Almijara. When it had finally been decided that this area would be a National Park my wife Rosario and I realized this would be an ideal place to build our two houses. Thanks to its status as a nature reserve and the difficult terrain, this beautiful area hasn’t been ruined by masses of holiday homes. As you might imagine, due to the location, the building work was difficult, but the problems were surmounted via hard work and belief in our dream. In all, the work commenced on April 6th 2001, took 9 months, and was completed just before the end of that year. We selected the material for the houses ourselves, and did so very carefully as we wanted to maintain a relationship with the natural environment, the aim was to make the houses comfortable with a natural look and feel, in order to harmonise with the National Park. The houses are surrounded by olive groves and pine woods; from time to time you may see squirrels, foxes, rabbits, mountain goats, wild boar, partridge, eagles, and other wild creatures. It would have been easy to extend the properties, but we were determined to preserve the olive groves out of respect for our ancestors from whom we inherited the land; we like to think they would be pleased with the changes we have made. To speak of La Reserva and El Torin makes us proud as they are the fruits of great effort and love for the project. We are very happy with the results and are educating our children to similarly love and care for the place which will eventually belong to them.
La Reserva & El Torin are beautifully equipped and have everything you need for complete relaxation in a completely natural environment , in a place where you will really feel at home .
Our cottages are “above the rest” both metaphorically and physically and we would like our customers to know that both the roads leading to La Reserva and El Torin are mainly unmade roads until you reach the houses. The quickest way up is from the MA 5105 (Nerja-Frigiliana) going down from Molineta towards the river on a steep slope with various curves but with a base of asphalted concrete until you reach the river. The river crossing is a shallow ford in winter but in summer is completely dry. From the other side of the river onwards it is an unasphalted road . It is a five minute journey but we advise care. The other route is via Nerja Town centre . It is practically flat but it takes 15 minutes.
It is a pleasure for us to see our visitors come here from many other countries and enjoy the town of Frigiliana, our kind climate, and the area´s tranquility. Weekend ( 21 until 23 November 2008 )
Under a few temperatures aproxx. of 24 º, and with a blue sky usual, this weekend Rosario and I, we have taken as every year, the aceitunas ( olives ) of our field in La Reserva and El Torin. We have received of several clients and friends e-mails, to near the low temperatures of this weekend in enclosed U.K. with snow in their gardens. It is difficult to imagine that to only 3hours flight , we have been with our summer clothes.
Weekend ( 28 until 30 November 2008)
After these fantastic temperatures (aproxx23 º) during the whole més of November, 2008, in the last days the snow appeared in our mountains and with unusual temperatures for us of 7/8 º. Thankfully the Sun did not stop going out and the landscape of our Sierra Almijara though a few days, he seemed adorned by the snow. Here some photographies Besides the beautiful of our landscape, can contemplate our Sierra Almijara with the snow last weekend. For us landscapes us turn out to be strange.
